Case Study #2

The Client:
Economic Development Commission
Topic:
Execution of strategic plan and annual update of the strategic plan.
Situation:
The client was a private economic development commission with a huge mandate to stimulate and enhance the community’s economic growth by investing in people and businesses, as well as other economic opportunities so that the community/nation will be self sufficient in 25 years.
The Challenges:
  • A strategic plan had been developed but the client did not have a systematic implementation process to keep it on track. Note – most strategic plans are developed without a systematic process to successfully implement them, resulting in targets being missed.
Actions Taken:
  • Installed a systematic and disciplined process to successfully implement the strategic plan.

  • Established measurable targets to track progress so the client would know when changes were needed to continuously improve.

  • Held a “Plan-to-Implement” session to officially launch the implementation of the strategic plan.

  • Conducted quarterly meetings with the management team and board of directors to track progress and build and sustain momentum.

  • Provided performance management training to support managers and supervisors in managing performance.

  • Reviewed and updated the strategic plan annually to ensure that it was current and addressed future anticipated trends and issues.

The Results:
  • Achieved 100% of results over three years.

  • Enhanced alignment between the management team and board of directors towards the organization’s strategic priorities.
